Qi Yu

Graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Department of Decorative Design, Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University) in 1991. Currently, he is a professor and graduate student supervisor at the College of Arts and Design, Jimei University. Qi Yu is a contemporary artist who creates with original "Porcelain Symbols" as his vocabulary and medium. He extracts porcelain—a symbolic element of Chinese culture—from its original utensil language system and then uses free and accidental creative methods to make it show reconstructed imagery. Through this, he explores the "parallelism" connotation and orientation between self and others in time sequence, and further directly points to one's own existence at the "Un-timed Nature" level of current linguistic imagery. His work has featured strongly in several Solo and Joint Exhibitions, in China, Hong Kong, Europe and USA.
